BY NIGHAT ARIFCapturing Moments: My Way of Holding On
I think I’ve always been a little obsessed with time, with how fast it moves, how quietly it slips away, and how easy it is to forget the little things that once meant everything.
That’s why I started capturing moments.
Not in some big, dramatic way. Just, taking photos. Short videos. A quick snap of a sunset. A candid shot of my friends laughing when they didn’t know I was watching. A video of that one evening when the sky turned gold and it felt like the world paused, just for a second.
It’s not about being a “photographer” or making things look perfect. It’s about memory. It’s about feeling. It’s about saving something real.
Because sometimes, when life moves on, when people drift or places change, all you’re left with is what you captured. And when I scroll back through those moments, it’s like time folds in on itself. I’m right there again. Laughing. Living. Feeling.
To me, visuals are little time machines. They bring back forgotten jokes, quiet emotions, and stories I didn’t even know I was writing at the time.
That blurry photo? Yeah, maybe it’s not “Instagram-worthy,” but I know how happy I was in that moment, and that’s what matters.
So no, it’s not just a hobby. It’s my way of holding on. To people. To places. To versions of myself I don’t want to lose.
Because in a world that rushes forward without warning, capturing moments is how I slow down, and remember.
